ERA4TB Hollow Fiber Infection Model for TB
The Hollow Fibre System for TB (HFS-TB) is a preclinical PK/PD platform adapted to work with BSL3 pathogens, allowing researchers to simulate dynamic drug concentration profiles and track bacterial killing over extended time periods – closely mimicking how a drug behaves in a patient. Developed and validated at the University of Zaragoza, the model has been used to characterise moxifloxacin, TBAJ-587 and other candidate regimens ahead of clinical testing.
The University of Zaragoza’s implementation of HFS-TB was recognised by the European Commission’s Innovation Radar and won both the Spanish national and international Quality Innovation Awards in the “innovation with potential” category (one of 23 winners chosen from 557 entries internationally).
